Tina May + Enrico Pieranunzi Thursday 6 October
This autumn we celebrate our Parliamentary Jazz Award with evening concerts featuring two exceptional jazz duos - one with Europe’s finest jazz singer Tina May and Italy’s outstanding, internationally acclaimed pianist Enrico Pieranunzi (pictured, 6 Oct), and the other with iconic saxophonist Stan Sulzmann with pianist Nikki Iles (1 Dec)- two evenings of warm, intimate entertainment in store at the Seven Arts venue. We also have a special Leeds appearance of one of the legends of the New York improv scene, saxman Ellery Eskelin, (13 Oct) all women band Nérija! (3 Nov) playing exciting and original jazz, hiphop, afrobeat and hi-life music, and for lovers of the sort of jazz music Gil Evans is famous for we have a real treat as we welcome Jim Rattigan's fabulous 12 piece all star band "Pavilion"(17 Nov)Our Sunday afternoons are pretty special this autumn too - we have hip London bands Angus Bayley's "Scrapbook" (11 Sept) and Corrie Dick's "Impossible Things" (18 Sept) Yorkshire jazz pianists Alex Hutton (25 Sept) and Jami Sheriff (20 Nov) with their trios, plus UK jazz favourites including Mike Walker, Les Chisnell and Richard Iles (Nov 6), Laura Jurd, (Nov 13) Josh Kemp, Tim Giles and Ross Stanley (Nov 27), Asaf Sirkis, Sylwia Bialas, Frank Harrison, Patrick Bettison (Oct 2) , as well vocal tributes to Peggy Lee and Cole Porter from Tessa Smith, Kate Peters and Jenny Smith (Oct 16 and 30th). And there's more too - including guitar legend Gary Boyle (Oct 9) Ben Lowman's "Django Project" (Oct 23), jazz singer Emily Brown (Dec 4) and Ronnie Bottomley's Jazz Orchestra playing at our Christmas party (Dec 11). All this plus our "Seven Jazz introduces" series of young Leeds bands, our jazz workshop, jazz choir and our new Seven Jazz Big Band!
