Sunday Jazz @Middlesbrough Town Hall

Following the success of its inaugural launch last year, the popular Sunday Jazz season is set for a welcome Teesside return, bringing with it this time a 6-month long programme of critically acclaimed live music to Middlesbrough Town Hall.

Kickstarting the series with a Sunday Jazz Special on Sunday 27th October and programmed by the founder of Gateshead International Jazz Festival at Sage Gateshead, and Europe Jazz Network's Ros Rigby (OBE)

The launch event features award-winning Scottish National Jazz Orchestra - complete with pianist Brian Kellock - will perform the music of jazz legends Count Basie, Duke Ellington and 'Fats' Waller from 7:30 pm, preceded by three stellar acts; husband and wife duo Zoe Gilby & Andy Champion, Tommy Smith (saxophonist & OBE award winner) & Brian Kellock (Scottish international Jazz ambassador), as well as UK pianist Gwilym Simcock, who continues to travel the world as a member of US jazz guitar icon Pat Metheny's quartet.

Tina Featherstone at Huddersfield Jazz

Tina and the band have been playing as a trio throughout the country since 1990. They are currently in residence at the Harrogate Brasserie. Tina is also a regular guest player at Scarborough Jazz Club, and is a member of the band “Sarah Collins & Keep the Faith”. Tina is currently working on a new album of her own compositions, some of which she will be playing at the gig.

ELT at Dean Clough Halifax



Pianist Kit Downes is playing in Halifax at Dean Clough, with the ELT trio featuring Tom Challenger (saxophone) and amazing Norwegian vocalist Ingebjørg Loe Bjørnstad.

Kit is no stranger to Dean Clough having undertaken a four day residency there with Cellist Lucy Railton in 2015. Good to see Dean Clough is putting on jazz againa after a lot of works being done to the building.

Jazz at The Lescar line-up this autumn

We’ve got everything covered from fusion and singer-songwriter/folk influences to vibrant large bands and small intimate ensembles, Mercury nominees, and the 2018 BBC Young Jazz Musician of the Year. 


This week, wonderful vocalist and violinist Alice Zawadzki brings a virtuosic string trio with cellist Shirley Smart and bass player Misha Mullov-Abbado, and we have two dynamic takes on contemporary fusion with Flying Machines and the Mike De Souza Trio in consecutive weeks. Manchester Jazz Collective bring their spirited and inspiring large ensemble over the Snake Pass in November, followed by a truly all-star trio of Nadim TeimooriRuth Goller and Corrie Dick, and a return of the acclaimed Jamie Doe, aka Magic Lantern, sure to be a magical evening in the Lescar backroom. We’ve got some truly beautiful lyrical music from four Northern-based musicians at the end of November, when Universal Time join us, and finally we launch into December with the BBC Young Jazz Musician of the YearXhosa Cole, and his charismatic and driving quartet.
