Here's a round up of what's happening in Leeds this Spring

The Wardrobe have some interesting gigs resulting from their link with the Band on the Wall - Go Go Penguin (19 February), the Bill Lawrence group (8 March)

Howard Assembly Room also have a clutch of interesting jazz gigs  -  Mingus Big Band (23 Jan), French pianist, composer and filmmaker Christophe Chassol (1 Feb), Mulatu Astatke (10 Feb) and Colin Stetson (11 Mar)

Seven Jazz have their international jazz evening series at Seven Arts - Peter King (Thurs Jan 21st) then country blues legend Steve Phillips with the Rough Diamonds (Fri 5 Feb) , the best jazz singer and the best accompanist in the UK Ian Shaw with Barry Green on piano (Thurs 18 Feb), New York based guitarist Phil Robson and his organ trio (Thurs March 3rd), US drummer Jeff Williams with a quintet featuring rising tenor sax player John O'Gallagher (Thurs 17 March), Mark Lockheart's highly rated new band "Majila" with Liam Noble and Jasper Hoiby (Thurs (31 March), and then a special treat - Art Blakey's saxman Jean Touissaint with his highly acclaimed "Roots and Herbs" Blakey project (Thurs 14 April).

Jazz at the Grove Leeds LS2: monthly on second Monday; contemporary jazz with the band "Abtuse" 8pm then jam session 9pm

Tuesdays 

Leeds Jazz Club in Armley: Armley Conservative Club, weekly, traditional jazz and swing 8pm

Wednesdays 

Jazz at LS6 Cafe Hyde Park: weekly contemporary jazz with different band each week at 8pm, and jam session 10pm (starts again on 20th January)

The Lock In at Trinity Arts Boar Lane Leeds City Centre: monthly, jazz and various musics 8pm

The B-side at Leeds College of Music: monthly, student jazz groups 7.30pm

Strawberry Jam at the Fox n Newt, Burley Road LS3: jazz, funk, experimental, first Wednesday in month  8.30pm

Thursdays

Seven Jazz @Seven Arts Chapel Allerton: fortnightly international contemporary jazz concerts 7.45-11pm

Crowd of Favours - new weekly jazz jam (7pm - late)  8 Harper Street, LS2 7EA Leeds

Fridays

Cafe Lento Headingley: fortnightly mainly contemporary jazz 8.00pm - starts Fri 15 jan with "Mestisa"

Heart Jam Headingley: monthly jam session, last Friday in each month 7.30pm

Saturdays

Jazz at Heart Headingley: monthly, contemporary jazz 8pm

Jazz at the Spa: Village Hall, Boston Spa: weekly mainstream jazz 7.30pm

Jazz in the Cafe at Inkwell Chapel Allerton: Jazz Divas monthly first Saturday, Sky High Trio last Saturday, 1.30-4pm each month - starts 6th Feb with Ros Lewis

Brendan Duffy at the Head of Steam Mill Hill, Leeds City Centre near station, weekly residency 7.30pm
