Autumn Jazz grooves in Grimsby

"Grimsby Jazz starts its Autumn programme on 2nd September with an evening of beautiful music. Nikki Iles is "one of the UK's best-kept secrets, with a silvery touch and uncloying emotional warmth". The Quartet also has Lincolnshire's very own favourite guitarist Pat McCarthy, and drummer John Perry. Completing the quartet on double bass is Arnie Somogyi, composer, producer, educator. - one of the UK's leading jazz bass players and innovative new bandleaders.

The Ben Clatworthy Quartet complete the Grimsby leg of their tour on 7th October at The Old Clee Club. Ben saxes & flute, John Donaldson piano, Simon Thorpe doublebass, Matt Home drums. Benn’s distinctive, muscular saxophone and flute feature in his unique arrangements of standards from Cole Porter to Marvin Gaye, John Coltrane to the Beatles, as well as originals from within the band. The Clavin Travers Trio provide a support act for this gig so arrive for a 7.00pm start with Calvin Travers on Guitar, Sam Quintana on bass and Alasdair Wells on drums.

A change of scenery and day for Grimsby Jazz on Saturday 17th October, when at 2.15 pm there is the Grimsby Jazz Prom @ the Minster. At only £5 per adult, (accompanied children free), it will be an afternoon of exceptional music. Featuring a range of local, national and international musicians. MAPAS Hub Youth Choirs, Leeds band Pan Jumby and Tina May sings Piaf, a performance by Tina May and Nikki Iles, with Karen Street on accordion and Julie Walkington on double bass.

The Piero Tucci Quartet  appear on 11th November, The  multi-instrumentalist is an amazing talent on piano, saxophone and accordion. Completing the line up will be Jamie Taylor guitar, Pete Turner bass and Dave Walsh drums.

Rounding off the year with a great Christmas treat in the form of Alan Barnes on Wednesday 9th December. Alan Barnes has written a suite of music based on Charles Dicken’s “A Christmas Carol.” Each piece is a Barnes original. Before each of the pieces Barnes reads from the Dickens text, switching the audience from hilarity to pathos with a skill that would have done credit to Dickens himself. A night not to be missed."
