Scarborough back in the groove..

Talented saxophonist Matt has carved an interesting career since graduating from The Leeds College of Music.  He has recorded sessions for national TV and radio and played with a wide range of bands and artists.  These include The Memphis Belle Orchestra and the Glenn Miller Tribute Orchestra, Boogie Night Fever, Thom Whitworth, Pat McCarthy, Julie Edwards and Jamie Taylor.  Matt is a founder of Sun Flower music therapy workshops and teaches the saxophone at The East Riding College.  MG3. £4

Unfurl

This quintet plays music that expands across continents, combining Indian ragas, flamenco and Arabic music with improvisation to create an original sound.  Violinist Olivia Moore is the leader and inspiration behind Unfurl.  Adam Warne has played drums and percussion for over twenty-five years.  His speciality is Egyptian percussion with the riq and darbouka.  John Bell has performed Indian music for ten years playing the tabla and the 100 stringed santoor.  Jim Faulkener is the group’s accomplished guitarist and Gavin Barras is their bass player.  Unfurl have been enthusiastically received at various jazz festivals across the country, including London.  This performance is sponsored by Jazz North. Tickets £7 (£6 in advance}.

Rob McGrath
Rob is a saxophonist who was a member of the Hull Youth Jazz Orchestra as a schoolboy.  After eight years as a Royal Marine bandsman, he left to study jazz at Middlesex University, with tutors Nikki Iles and Pete Churchill.  Rob has played with The Memphis Belle and Moonlight Serenade Orchestras.  As well as his regular jazz gigs, Rob is a woodwind teacher for the North Lincolnshire Music Service. Octopus
This octet has played the Burton Agnes Festival and appears regularly in Hull.  They have an impressive library of big band arrangements tailored to fit eight musicians.  Many of the finest arrangers in the business – Marty Paich, Bob Florence and Bill Holman etc – have worked on jazz standards including compositions by Count Basie and Duke Ellington.  More recent arrangements have come from Ron Simmonds, lead trumpeter with both the John Dankworth and Ted Heath bands, and Ronnie Bottomley, the drum tutor at Leeds College of Music.  £5

All gigs start at 8.45pm.
