It’s 2015 and time for a new start – beginning with the new Sheffield Jazz spring season.  First gig on Friday 16th January at the Crucible Studio is the welcome return of :

John Taylor’s New Group with John Taylor: piano & arrangements; Julian Siegel: saxophones and bass clarinet; Diana Torto: vocals

One of the truly great players of post ’60s British jazz, John Taylor is famous for associations with many world-class players. Vocal virtuoso, Diana Torto has worked with John in a duo for ten years, leading to incredibly responsive interplay, augmented here by Julian Siegel’s beautifully sensitive saxophone playing. The repertoire is based on John Taylor’s arrangements of Paul McCartney songs, together with his own compositions.

Outstanding flautist Gareth Lockrane joins a band comprising the cream of the UK’s younger jazz musicians to play music from Max Luthert’s debut release Orbital. With enticing melodies, intricate harmony, subtly complex rhythms and forms, the band has already created a truly unique sound that is enhanced by the instrumentation of the group.
