Jazz doesn’t stop during January, certainly not at the Globe in Newcastle. Each Saturday this month we’re hosting a different style of jazz (and coincidentally featuring some musicians from different countries each week).
On 10 January there’s the Steve Glendinning Quartet featuring the electrifying and vibrant combination of Steve Glendinning on guitar and Chris Jelly on vibraphone.
Then on Saturday 17 January guitarist Chris Standring, an international star of the smooth jazz scene, brings his US quartet to the Globe – the most northerly gig in his UK tour (online ticket sales - http://www.skiddle.com/e/12262377 - are attracting a lot of interest from Scottish fans).
On Saturday 24 January Canadian born drummer and composer Katie Patterson fronts The Allsorts Band who she describes as ‘infectious groovesters unapologetically mashing up jazz with neo-prog’.
And at the end of the month (Sat 31 Jan) German actor/singer Gabriele Heller presents her new vocal venture Diachronicx (a duo with guitarist Steve Glendinning).
Our jazz education programme starts again in January with three courses – a return of the popular Advanced Jazz Guitar course and the Play More Jazz group improvisation course, and new course Saxophones Together. There are still places available on all three courses.
