Jazz at Newcastle's Lit and Phil
Newcastle's Literary & Philosophical Society (Lit & Phil) is the largest independent library outside London, housing over 150,000 books. It also has a splendid programme of Jazz! Here is the February line up
Monday 3rd Feb 1.10pm £4 lunchtime jazz concert
Ant Law Quartet Ant Law (guitar), James Maddren (drums), Tom Farmer (bass) & Michael Chillingworth (reeds).
Ant’s debut album “Entanglement” was released on the 33Jazz record label in February 2013 to great critical acclaim. For this concert, part of a UK tour, the Ant Law Quartet will be showcasing new material before they record their second album.

Jamil Sheriff Trio + Josh Kemp Quartet
Leeds-based pianist Jamil Sheriff has been a highly regarded figure on the northern and wider national jazz scene for more than a decade. Not only is he an unfailingly imaginative and thoughtful player in his own right, but he also writes great melodic tunes that seem custom built to bring out the best in all three members of his fine trio. For the second set of this gig, the trio is joined by saxophonist Josh Kemp, who takes over the leadership of the group to play tunes from his recently issued album 'Tone Poetry'.

Wednesday 26th Feb 7.30pm £6/5 Jazz concert -
The Jazz Guitar Duo
James Birkett and Bradley Johnson present a programme of music by some of the most influential players of the last hundred years – taking the audience on a musical journey which moves from early jazz and blues, through swing and bebop, to cool and contemporary jazz.
Friday 7th Mar 7.30pm £5 Jazz concert
The Budtones
The Budtones are a quintet who perform a mixture of jazz standards and originals. They have frequently performed at the Jazz Cafe in Newcastle and still play regularly throughout the region at venues such as Hoochie Coochie, The Bridge Hotel, The Salsa Cafe and The Queen's Hall, Hexham.
