Grimsby Jazz has a great programme leading up to this years Jazz Festival in June.
Appearing on 15th January is the Adam Glasser Quartet. Possibly the top chromatic harmonica player in the world of jazz, South African Adam Glasser, brings his quartet and distinct African flavour to Grimsby Jazz. With Robin Aspland piano, Steve Watts bass and on drums the excellent and highly respected Nic France, who has played with just about everyone on the British jazz scent. Robin and Steve are both original performers on Adam's award winning debut CD 'Free At First'.
February 19th brings acclaimed Saxophonist Josh Kemp. He brings a stellar line-up promoting his new album, 'Tone Poetry'. Equally at ease playing Josh's original compositions or repertoire from the jazz tradition. Featuring Tim Lapthorn Piano, Mick Hutton Bass Matt Skelton Drums. Look forward to hard-driving swing, lush ballads, and beautiful melodic lines.
On March19th not only do we have the Jean Toussaint Quartet but a support band of Students from Leeds College of Music. The music starts early, at 7.30 pm. Since Toussaint left Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers in the mid eighties, he has worked on high profile, musical collaborations in many different jazz styles. Today he works out of London England as a composer, tenor/soprano saxophonist, bandleader and highly regarded jazz educator.
On Wednesday 16th April Norwegian guitarist Eirik Svela returns with his own trio, Simon Read on bass and John Arnesen on drums. He originally came with student band Sleight of Hand in 2008.
On 14th May is The Roger Beaujolais Quartet. An essential player on Britain's jazz scene, Roger’s technique on the vibraphone is masterly, and his mature style is so broadly based that he can switch from funk to delicate ballad in an instant. Regular sidemen Robin Aspland (piano), Simon Thorpe (bass) and drummer Winston Clifford are spot-on throughout." (Dave Gelly Guardian).
On June 4th local favourite guitarist Pat McCarthy and his band accompanies Gareth Williams. He will demonstrate some of his many skills on piano, guitar and vocals.
