Jez Matthews writes..

We’re back running gigs and I’m really pleased to tell you what we’ve got coming up at The Lescar and at Yellow Arch studios in the first few months of the year. Full details below of our gigs in January - early March, plus a list of all confirmed gigs through to June. The Lescar is closed for refurbishment until early Feb, and we hope to have a big celebratory return on Thursday 10th Feb, but in the meantime we’ve got a couple of gigs at Yellow Arch Studios, which has been a great extra venue for us over the last few years.

Estraven / Thurs 13 Jan / Yellow Arch Studios
A vibrant mix of jazz, contemporary classical, post-rock and Arabic music, striking melodies and edgy rhythms from a brilliant London-based band led by double bassist Chris Hyde-Harrison, with Ant Law (Trio HLK) on guitar, Duncan Eagles (Partikel) on sax, and drummer Matt Parkinson (Howl Quartet). Their debut album ‘Ignored Advice’ is released in Feb 2022.

HARP DOUBLE BILL: Alina Bzhezhinska (harp/electronics) & Julie Walkington (bass) + Manon McCoy (harp) & Johnny FK (electronics) / Thurs 27th Jan / Yellow Arch Studios
Alina Bzhezhinska is an internationally renowned virtuoso who’s played at London Jazz Festival, Edinburgh International Festival, the Royal Albert Hall and WOMADelaide in Australia, as well as collaborating with Tony Kofi, Kamaal Williams, Shabaka Hutchings and Ursula Rucker. In her duo with bass player Julie Walkington (Georgia Mancio, Nigel Price, Loz Speyer) she expands the possibilities of her instrument with electronics to create a unique pallet of sounds and textures.

Manon McCoy (balo, Pocket) is making waves on the Sheffield music scene with wholly innovative approaches and collaborations, and is joined by guitarist and electronic sound explorer, Johnny FK, mixing improvisation and electronic music to produce quietly adventurous new music.

LESCAR REOPENING NIGHT / Thurs 10th Feb at The Lescar
