Since their debut performance in 2008, Alter Ego have entertained audiences at many North East jazz venues and festivals. The group draw much of their material from the rich catalogue of original compositions created by the likes of Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, Hank Mobley, and Miles Davis. The result is a stylistically varied programme including Up-tempo Swing, Hard Bop, Funk and Latin Jazz.

The group’s instrumentation allows for tightly structured arrangements, with harmonically rich ensemble passages, exciting rhythmic interplay and inventive improvised solos from all band members.

We're welcoming back the Durham University Jazz Society to host semi-regular Jazz Jams at HQ. They're free to attend and open to all.
 Format
There will be a house band all night who welcome anyone to get up with them or switch out the rhythm section. They play from the standard real book repertoire so bring music for anything non typical.
The jams run very informally with people welcome to come and go as they please. If you want to play or sing, just bring along an instrument and get up as and when you fancy playing.
It's a good place to work on improvisation or just listen to some great music.
