New season, more amazing music!

Here's the Seven Jazz Leeds September line up - we're looking forward to bringing the best of contemporary jazz to Leeds this autumn! Starting with the Chapel Allerton Arts Festival this weekend...

Sun Sept 6: Jazz Blues and Salsa Sunday @Regent Street 12.30-7pm -  just £3!
This year we welcome back the Garforth Jazz Rock Band (12.30pm) the very hip young "Stretch Trio" led by EWI/Saxophone star Andy French (1.30pm), saxman Rod Mason and vocalist Nikki Allan with their Quintet (2.30pm), Chicago blues from the James O' Hara Blues Band (3.30pm), jump jive from Louis Louis Louis (4.30pm - see picture), a salsa dance class from Tanya and Sergio (5.30pm) and then "Tarantismo" (6pm)

Don't forget to check out the Festival events happening on Saturday 5th September as well- Richard Ormrod's "Dread Supreme", amazing oud player Hassan Erraji, the Festival Community Choir, Nicki Allan launching her new charity album "For Life" (3pm) at the Chapel Allerton Club (next to the Methodist Hall) fringe event also featuring features jazz vocalist Katie Rogerson (1.45pm) www.chapelallerton.org.uk

Sun Sept 13:Elliot Galvin Trio @Seven Arts 1.30-4.15pm £7/5 conc
Elliot Galvin on piano, Tom McCredie on bass and Simon Roth on drums.In 2014 he won the European Young Musician of The Year Award in Germany. Elliot has a new and exhilarating approach to jazz piano. His trio (pictured) never fail to deliver a performance which perfectly balance technical virtuosity, a healthy dose of fun and playfulness as well as moments of captivating beauty. http://www.elliotgalvin.com/

Sun Sept 20: The Jazz Duos @Seven Arts 1.30-4.15pm £7/5 conc
Jazz duos are lovely to hear in the intimate setting of Seven Arts. In the first of our new "unplugged" concerts we have two - Leeds guitarist Jiannis Pavlidis and saxophonist Matt Anderson launching their new jazz album, and also Leeds saxman Will Howard with pianist Declan Forde.

Sun Sept 27: Ben Lowman and Kev Holborough "The Cooker" @Seven Arts 1.30-4.15pm £7/5 conc
Ben Lowman - sax, Kev Holborough - trombone, Sam Dunn - guitar, Martin Longhawn - organ and Steve Hanley – drums. Soul jazz developed in the late 1950s and 1960's, with gospel tinged tunes, and funky beats. Expect to hear some well-known soul jazz recordings by Lee Morgan, Herbie Hancock, Horace Silver, Ramsey Lewis and of course Cannonball Adderley

Workshops and choir
Our jazz workshops are back! The fortnightly instrumental workshop starts again on Saturday 19 September 2- 4pm @Seven Arts tutored by Tom Sharp. All welcome - learn to play jazz is a convivial and supportive environment  £10/8 Details jeanwatsonlifeskills@hotmail.com

The improvisation group for more experienced players at continues to run on fortnightly Friday evenings (and some Tuesday evenings) Dominic Moore's studios in Meanwood. Next session is Friday 12 September 7.30pm £10/8 Details dominicgmoore@hotmail.com.

Our fortnightly Seven Jazz Voices Choir led by Tessa Smith is back too this autumn on Monday Sept 21st 7-9pm Sing jazz tunes you know and love!
