Hot Fingers with Emily Campbell
Summer Jazz in Boston Spa....
May 16th – Kevin Grenfell’s Jazz Giants – another truly professional group. The irrepressible Kevin on trombone ably supported by two outstanding reeds players – our own John Hallam and Paul Harrison from Denmark. Then add Simon Banks on piano and Graham Smith on drums. A lively evening is forecast. £10
May 23rd – Fryer-Barnhart International Jazz Band - yes, here at last we have Jeff and Jim with the International Jazz Band including such luminaries as George Huxley on reeds and Gordon Whitworth on trumpet. No need to ramble on – just claim your seat early for what will be one of the highlights of the year. £10
May 24th – Jeff and Anne Barnhart as Ivory & Gold, St Mary’s Church, Boston Spa. 10.30am
May 30th – Chicago Teddy Bears – and rounding off the month in style, none better than the “Teds” with a rip roaring session of traditional jazz favourites and fun plus the added bonus of John Hallam on reeds.
Jun 6th – John Burgess/Roy Williams Quintet – something a little more subtle – combining a renowned reeds player and old friend John B. from Edinburgh with the talented and mellifluous Roy Williams on trombone plus a first class rhythm section. Superb sounds from across the melodic musical spectrum. £10
Jun 13th – Tame Valley Stompers – otherwise known as Terry’s Dead Good Boys. A warm welcome to regular visitors from across the Pennines. One of our most respected trombone players leads this group dedicated to unabashed traditional jazz with a sense of humour. Terry’s rendition of Ory’s Creole Trombone is guaranteed to bring the house down!
Jun 20th – Hot Fingers with Emily Campbell – without doubt, the group most requested by our Boston Spa audience Led by maestro “Spats” Langham on guitar/banjo, the music is described as “vintage acoustic swing music” - the red hot jazz of 1920’s New York. To use the hackneyed expression, this is a truly “class act” – the more so with the addition of Emily Campbell – the classically trained vocalist who draws her inspiration from Ella and Peggy Lee. £10
Jun 27th – Washington Whirligig – formed in 2012, a first visit by a group from South Yorkshire which has quickly gained a reputation for exciting traditional jazz in the swinging Chicago style of Condon and Alex Welsh interspersed with New Orleans sounds, swing and the blues.
Jazz at the Spa is at the Village Hall High Street Boston Spa, Leeds LS23 6AA
Situated just off the new section of the A1(M) at Junction 45 signed Wetherby and Otley.
