JazzLeeds is Flying High!

Live jazz continues at Seven Arts Leeds - we're putting on live (socially distanced) jazz in the open air at Seven Arts courtyard in Chapel Allerton Leeds LS73PD featuring the best of  jazz from the great city of Leeds and of course the bar will be open. On Sundays you can buy street food at the cafe too.

Ben Powling Quartet

Featuring World Service/Vipertime frontman Ben Powling on sax, Ben Haskins guitar, Sam Quintana bass and Josh Smout drums. This is the gig that was rescheduled from earlier in the month

Emma Johnson's "Gravy Boat"

Emma Johnson’s Gravy Boat is a project led by Leeds based saxophonist and composer Emma Johnson. Gravy Boat is a band that performs melodic, accessible jazz that anyone can enjoy. The band were selected for the Jazz North Northern Line scheme for the year 2019 and have performed for us at Seven as well as at Manchester and Lancaster Festivals

John Taylor's Blues Dudes

Blow the Covid blues away with saxman and blues singer John Taylor! Jazz and blues and a touch of funk too. The band cover a variety of styles but the music could be described as being quirky blues with philosophy, poetry, humour and groove! Payf collection. These are pay as you feel gigs - jazz in the open air in Seven Arts Courtyard - fully distanced, table service. The courtyard is only a small space with a limit of 30 people at a time. The staff at Seven Arts may ask you to sit inside the venue (socially distanced of course) until a seat becomes available outside - if they do, please do as they say.

We're Flying High too!
Chapel Allerton Arts Festival group decided to cancel this year's event due to Covid-19 - but as restrictions have begun to be eased there has been momentum to try and do something on the festival week, although on a much smaller scale and with social distancing. They re delighted to announce 'Chapel Allerton Flying High' an art, craft and music event!

There will (of course) be open air jazz too - at Seven Arts Courtyard, and a jazz picnic on the field at the Gledhow Sport and Social Club on Gledhow Lane (near the top of Little Switzerland). We've some lovely bands agreed to play too

Eliot Richards "Meantime" trio

Eliot Richards is a jazz saxophonist based in Leeds, UK. He can be found playing all over the country and, indeed the world, having played across Europe and Asia. He leads "Meantime Trio" which takes its influence from the great swinging trios of the 50/60s. Eliot spent the start of 2019 in the USA studying with the great Charles Owens. With flying high being the festival theme we might just hear some Charlie "Bird" parker too! Tshok is a brand new band all about fusing Balkan and North African sounds with drum n’ bass, jazz, funk and more. A whirlwind of klezmer clarinet, skanking guitar and heavy brass, JazzLeeds is excited to bring their high energy live show to the Flying High Festival. Payf collection. The Gledhow sport field is a hidden gem in our area with plenty of space for social distancing. We've done lots of planning with the folk who run the club and feel confident that we can safely put on a live outside performance there. So on Sunday 6 Sept we will having 3 bands starting at 1.30 pm and finishing at 5.30pm. Bring a picnic, chair or blanket and find a spot where you feel comfortable. Let’s bring the sunshine!

Our headline is singer and pianist Jeremy Sassoon. Based in Manchester Jeremy sings jazz, blues, soul music of Ray Charles. He plays piano too and he’ll be with his quartet featuring Leeds favourites Jim Corry on sax Richard Hammond bass and Craig Hanson drums
