16th October: Alice Zawadzki
From Jez Matthews at the Sheffield Lescar
We’ve got everything covered from fusion and singer-songwriter/folk influences to vibrant large bands and small intimate ensembles, Mercury nominees, and the 2018 BBC Young Jazz Musician of the Year.
This week, wonderful vocalist and
violinist Alice Zawadzki brings a virtuosic string trio with
cellist Shirley Smart and bass player Misha
Mullov-Abbado, and we have two dynamic takes on contemporary fusion
with Flying Machines and the Mike De Souza Trio in
consecutive weeks. Manchester
Jazz Collective bring
their spirited and inspiring large ensemble over the Snake Pass in November,
followed by a truly all-star trio of Nadim
Teimoori, Ruth Goller and Corrie Dick, and a return of the acclaimed Jamie Doe,
aka Magic Lantern, sure to be a magical evening in
the Lescar backroom. We’ve
got some truly beautiful lyrical music from four Northern-based musicians at
the end of November, when Universal
Time join us, and
finally we launch into December with the BBC
Young Jazz Musician of the Year, Xhosa Cole, and his charismatic and driving
quartet.
