Frank Brooker 29 August
Summer gigs at the Cask in Scarborough
AUGUST 8 Will Howard
Next up is one of our new regular soloists. Will plays melodic lines in the jazz tradition (think Young, Webster) but with great inventiveness and freedom. ‘Everything about him marks him out as a generous talent.’ (Bebop Spoken Here).
With Peter Elsdon on keyboards, Bob Walker, bass and Tom Townsend, drums. £5
AUGUST 15 Jim Corry
Completing the tasting, Jim is a widely recognised and respected player on all the saxophones who is equally at home with funk and acid jazz and with performing at international jazz festivals. ‘Soulful saxophone, hot stuff!’ (The Guardian). With MG3 £5
AUGUST 22 Firebird Quartet
It’s been a long wait since this popular quartet led by trumpeter Ian Chalk played at the club, performing original compositions and music from great contemporary jazz composers with creative energy and foot tapping grooves that everyone enjoys. With Martin Longhorn (keyboard), John
Marley (bass) and Tim Carter (drums). This gig has been individually sponsored £6
AUGUST 29 Frank Brooker
We round off the season with another club favourite. Frank cut his musical teeth in the trad boom of the 60s’s and has been developing his melodic mastery and relaxed swing on the tenor sax and clarinet ever since. £5
Doors open at 8.00 pm and music begins at 8.45.
