Ken Ford RIP

Sad to hear of the passing of Ken Ford from Hull Jazz. Ken had organised the weekly club in Hull since 1983, originally at the Howarth Arms and latterly at the Goodfellowship on Cottingham Road. The 2017 Hull City of Culture will be a fitting memorial to his work playing and promoting live music in the City

Kens funeral will be at 10.30am Thursday 29th December at the large crematorium, Chanterlands Avenue Hull HU5 3TS. The wake afterwards will be at the Kenilworth Suite, Goodfellowship Arms in Cottingham Road  HU5 4AT. There will be a musical tribute to him.

  2. Ken was one of the first guys I met in Hull when we started the jazz festival in 1993. We always had a great relationship and Ken was always keen to support the emerging artists and was tireless in celebrating the music he loved. He supported the festival with advice, suggestions and came to all the gigs. Ken kept jazz going in the City for over 40 years as a great musician, club owner and all round great guy. There will never be a more respected person in Hull's jazz world. He was very proud of Hull's jazz scene and it's musicians and he attended all the concerts that he could get to when he was not playing himself. Ken was over the moon when Hull became city of culture. Our love and thoughts go to Sarah, Ken's family and all his friends at Hull Jazz Club.

  4. I'm so sorry to have just heard of Ken's passing - I knew he was ill I spoke to him on the phone in the Autumn. I met Ken in the 1970s at Hull Arts Centre where he organised regular lunchtime and evening Jazz events. Alan Plater was a huge jazz fan and as a writer and one of the founders of The Arts Centre greatly encouraged these activities. More recently I booked out Ken and his colleagues as Jazz P'zazz on occasions. Sad news. Jon Marshall
