"Impossible Things" Sun 16 Sept @Seven Arts 1.30pm
More music coming your way this September from Leeds's Seven Jazz club. Their first Village Jazz Festival was a success celebrating the diversity of the Leeds Jazz scene, and the trademark mixture of styles that has brought the Parliamentary Jazz award accolade to the club this year.
This coming Sunday 18th September 1.30-4pm they present renowned young jazz supergroup "Impossible Things", a septet led by London-based, Glasgow-born drummer/composer Corrie Dick. The band features musicians such as Laura Jurd on trumpet and vocalist Jessica Radcliffe and is in the middle of a much acclaimed national tour. “A rich diversity of contemporary folk melodies reminiscent of Celtic traditions and at times North African music and arranged them in a perfectly flowing series of modern-day anthems” London Jazz News £10/8 conc, NUS £5

Next Sunday 25th September they welcome pianist Alex Hutton with his trio to Seven Arts playing the "Magna Carta Suite"(1.30pm start). It is 800 years since the Magna Carta signing. Alex has conjured up a jazz suite based on King John signing the Magna Carta at Runnymede in 1215. There’s tension, celebration, bliss, more tension, and some other moods all captured in the compositions with elements of Palestrina, early folk music, baroque, classical, and contemporary idioms. £10/8 conc, NUS £5
